Victoria Seeds Ltd (VSL) is a full-line seed company that deals in developing and disseminating high-yielding seed varieties to smallholder farmers in Uganda. The company aims to produce a variety of quality seeds at a reasonable price for the farmers to improve crop yields and livelihoods.
Market Opportunity/ Problem
Currently, up to 80% of fish feed used in Uganda is imported. Moreover, the fish farming business continues to grow. Therefore, in addition to providing quality seeds to farmers for better crop yield, Victoria Seed plans to invest in animal feed processing to meet the growing demand. Furthermore, this model provides a wider domestic market for the smallholder farmers who grow commercial crops, e.g., maize, soybean, and cassava, that can be used to process fish food.
