Saju Agro Dealers

Description

Saju Agro Dealers (Saju) is a partnership registered in Malawi. Saju distributes agricultural inputs, i.e., seeds, chemicals, tools and fertilizers to smallholder, medium scale and large farmers in central and northern region districts of Malawi. The company currently has 8 permanent shops. Saju also buys and aggregates commodity from farmers and sells locally and is exploring export markets.

Market Opportunity/ Problem

Malawi is an agriculture-based economy where 80% of population live in rural areas and depend on farming. Smallholder farmers constitute 60% of agriculture activities with 0.5 to 5 Hectares, 30% medium scale farmers with above 5 hectares of land and 10% large scale farmers above 50 hectares of land. The above environment creates a great opportunity for investors in inputs. It also creates an opportunity for processors of commodities. There are few processors who oversupply commodities resulting in lower prices. If set, a processing plant of commodities like soya beans, groundnuts, pigeon peas, would add value to products for export markets.
