Chipunga Farms Limited produces and grows coffee and macadamia seedlings and plants. It also provides seedlings to smallholder farmers. The company sources coffee parchment and macadamia (Nut In Shell) from the farmers and markets them in local and regional markets.
Market Opportunity/ Problem
Tobacco has been a major forex earner and key cash crop in Malawi. With tobacco markets and demand easing up, a lot of farmers are in search of alternatives. Coffee and macadamia is an option to most of these farmers but access to good and health quality seedlings, technical expertise, access to inputs and access to better and reliable markets has been the main challenge. Malawi produces good arabic coffee which is high in demand in most of the regional markets. Demand for Macadamia on regional markets its very high and is not satisfied. Buyers prefer bulk buying, however smallholder farmers are not able to produce in bulk. Chipunga Farm buys, process and markets it on both local and regional markets
