BINGA SERVIÇOS

Description

Most food fortification in Mozambique is done through vitamins and mineral premix. The rate of fortification programs in the small and medium food processing industry is very low and has high premix acquisition cost. Binga Serviços, processes fortified maize flour using local raw material such as maize, soybeans and peanuts hence contributing to the reduction of malnutrition.

Market Opportunity/ Problem

More than 45% of children in Mozambique have low protein and mineral intake because of poor diets. Agriculture is the main economic activity for most of the peri-urban and rural population. They grow a diverse range of food crops which can be consumed and sold but have little knowledge on nutrition. Introducing maize flour fortified with soybeans and peanuts provides balanced macronutrients (protein, fat and carbohydrates) which can be consumed as porridge.
